Maybe Wal-Mart isn't TOTALLY evil....

I'm back from China and it was great! I will blog about it later, but in the meantime, random news....

So yeah, Wal-Mart isn't totally evil, apparently, but it still isn't good. This article is really interesting for both the environmental info, plus it is amazing how one decision can make such a difference. Particularly this bit:

If it succeeds in selling 100 million compact fluorescent bulbs a year by 2008, total sales of the bulbs in the United States would increase by 50 percent, saving Americans $3 billion in electricity costs and avoiding the need to build additional power plants for the equivalent of 450,000 new homes.

That's freaking crazy how much power they have. Anyway, everyone should use these bulbs. They last for freaking ever and they are good for the environment! Eduardo and I were good Oregonians and used them and you should, too :P

yes Wal-Mart has a ton of influence, but doesn't mean they are all of a sudden good. if you look closely at those statistics, it still isn't a HUGE change. a 50% increase of current energy saving bulb usage (6% of all bulbs) is only 3% more, for a total of 9%. that is a good portion of people, but it is not like it jumped from 6% to 56% total.

i cant believe the consumers who are like "the bulbs aren't as pretty!" - who the heck is staring at lightbulbs??
